AYC422 Austin Seven Ruby ARQ
first reg.1/4/35
AYC 422 was a substantially unrestored car when purchased in Aril 1997 for
restoration. A series of photographs were taken of the car in order to maintain
accuracy when parts were refurbished or replaced.
Here is a series of pictures taken in April 1997
with a few comments alongside each. Simply click picture to enlarge view.
The
surround to the rear windows were black as was the centre pillar in line
with the windows. This black was continued over the upper door frame around
the window.
Note
the position of the interior mirror, slightly off centre on the passenger
side.
The visor direction may not be accurate as it can be easily reversed.
The
rear window metal trim was covered in dark brown rexine, the same as the other
decorative surfaces except the lower 6 inches of the doors and rear compartment
which was carpeted.
The rear trim between the roof lining and the interior walls was pinned
onto the wood frame with steel gimp pins. This method of fixing was also
used for most of the interior trim, including the rear window surrounds and
the rexine covered trim above the doors.
The
trim panel in the side of the front footwell was not covered in carpet for
the lower 6 inches. It was fixed in place by self-tapping screws and had a
cut out for the side vent and no fabric cover to clip over the vent.
The
air intake cover appears to have been painted black ( this may or may not be
original ), there is no other evidence of paint or finish on it.
Note the fixing of the Choke cable where it exits the bulkhead.
Although
not very clear in the picture there is a spring, between the outer control cable
cover and the starter lever around the inner control cable.
The
outer surface of the engine bay, where it is covered by the bonnet, was painted
black and looked as if it was original. Whilst cleaning up this area only
black paint was found, no body colour which was Dove Grey.
A
view of the rear end of the chassis showing exhaust ( which had almost certainly
been replaced in the past) and petrol line.
