Austin
Seven Club South Africa - Members visit Cornwall.
Thora Angell found out about their
Austin Seven Club on the internet, not far from where she was
born, in Johannesburg. Cape Town has members too.
During October Thora and Eddie
were delighted to have Aletta and Harry Boys stay. They had just
visited Wales and thought a few days in Cornwall to meet us would
be fun. Of course the garage was opened and our 1933 RP Box Saloon
revealed, looking shiny as ever. We had a trip up to Andrew and
Regi Jarmin, to share Austin news and the chance for them to see
the several 'Sevens' and Taxi at Polighey.
The next day, packed with sandwiches,
we drove towards Godrevy and had a picnic in the beautiful sunshine,
overlooking the blue sea. We continued onto Cape Cornwall and
St Ives, all so different to South Africa.
On the day of departure we sent
them off with some delicious pasties. A nice contact for members
if ever visiting S. Africa, they were so friendly and it was good
to have a common interest in our Austins. Aletta and Harry keep
in contact with us by sending the South African A7 newsletter,
which Thora passes around, to members.

Ad-hoc
Eleven cars plus occupants arrived
at Morrisons car park, Pool and awaited the arrival of our leaders
for the day, John and Sue Doyle and family. There was the usual
interest shown in our cars from the shoppers, my favourite comment
being my dad had an old car when I was younger, it had a
starting handle but it wasnt an Austin. I cant remember
what it was. Not much chance of a potential recruit there
I guess!
Our journey was through Illogan,
South Tehidy, Comb, Portreath and on to the Redruth bypass. Once
on the Redruth bypass we followed duly arrived at Tumblydown Farm
which is one of those very interesting places that we seem to
provide in this country but dont tell anyone about them.
It has everything - You can view a grand collection of an 0 and
00 gauge model railway together with a display of Meccano through
the ages. If you wish, you can have a ride on a 24 inch narrow
gauge railway in covered carriages, view mining equipment and
even drive one of eight locomotives, which a number of members
enjoyed.

End of year run December
31st 2007
Around fifty members attended this event many of whom met up
at the "veggie laybe" on the Truro road in their Sevens.
A good few came in their moderns and everyone arrived at the Hewas
Inn, Sticker, in time for an excellent lunch. There were around
fifteen Austin Sevens in the car parks and inside the Inn the
air was alive with conversation.

Tucking in at the Hewas
Inn
Trevor Sharp, who had made all the arrangements
for this event, had managed to join us after his recent stroke.
His nurse was also with him and was making sure that
he didnt overdo things.
The meal was excellent, nice and hot with good portions. and the
staff were very friendly and Obliging.A great day out!!

"Teach-In" January 2008
Malcolm Watts and Andrew Jarmin organised this brilliant
Teach-In following the recent Focus mag 'poll' of members, which
sought to discover our members 'most wanted' events. Higher
Polighey Farm was the venue and it was obvious how much advance
preparation Andrew and Malcolm had done.
Many of the fifteen "students" had brought gearboxes
with them and they were shown how to take them apart, what to
look out for, what to replace and how to re-assemble. This was
all demonstrated with patience, humour and evident expertise.

Regi and Andrew provided the hospitality for coffee
and lunch breaks for this all day event. It will be repeated in
April for those that were not able to get on this one.
